It looks like the cat - or bandicoot - is out of the bag. Activision has officially confirmed Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, after a series of leaked screenshots and details got out early. A full gameplay reveal is expected later today at 4pm BST
The new adventure was first discovered last week when it appeared on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee website. We learned that Crash 4 is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and that it's being developed by Toys For Bob. That's the same studio who developed the Spyro remasters, and also assisted on N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled.
"Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli," the translated description under the initial listing read.

"The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash's mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible."
Not long after that, a number of screenshots of the game in action showed up online. It looks very much to be a Crash game in the style of the original trilogy, which I suppose is why they're calling it Crash 4.
Given that this second leak all but confirmed the news, the Crash Bandicoot Twitter account took the opportunity to let everyone know that the new game was, indeed, the real deal. They also promised that official reveal later today will be better than the leaks, so be sure to keep an eye out.

It's About Time sounds like it'll be the first all-new Crash adventure in over a decade, which is very exciting for those of us who grew up with the character... especially since we saw him wilt and die in the mid 00s. The last full entry was 2008's Mind Over Mutant, a game that combined an ugly redesign with dull gameplay to create something that fell far short of what we knew the bandicoot was capable of.
2017's N.Sane Trilogy reminded us that Crash was once great, while also introducing him to an entirely new generation. Here's hoping Crash 4 is as ridiculously hard as those original three games.
