Croc and roll!

Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos was never one of the most well-remembered PlayStation platformers of its era. The little green chap never had the star power of, say, Crash Bandicoot or Spyro. Not to mention a dodgy camera and fiddly controls meant that the 1997 game didn't really review all that well at the time.

But what does that matter? Those that remember Croc remember him incredibly fondly. I know more than a few gamers who would jump for joy at the idea of a remake or reboot, but it's never been entirely clear if - or how - that could ever happen.

As with many semi-obscure video game mascots of the late 90s, it all comes down to who actually owns the rights to the little fella. As was recently pointed out by Josh Gaming on Twitter, it looks like the rights currently remain with Jez San. San was the CEO of Croc developer Argonaut Games until it shut down back in 2004.

Sure enough, a few fans then got in touch with San over Twitter to ask if a Croc remaster would ever be possible. He confirmed that he still gets asked about the loveable reptile a lot, and that he's even been in touch with people (presumably developers) that want to make it happen.

Without promising anything, San said that he'd be interested in making it happen one day. That might not be an awful lot to go on, but it's the most we've had in nearly 20 years, so I'll take it.

According to his LinkedIn, it looks like San is currently at FunFair Technologies, a London-based company that he founded back in 2017. FunFair seems to be a tech developer that focuses on Blockchain solutions for gaming, so it's unlikely that this would be the team to bring Croc back to the world.

The most likely scenario is that San would lend the IP to another developer to work on a remake/reboot. Will this ever actually happen? I honestly don't know, but if Crash, Spyro, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater can all come back from the dead, we've just got to believe that Croc can do the same.
