Most of the time, glitches in video games are nothing more than irritating problems that we can't wait to be patched out. Other times, however, developers accidentally include something in a game by mistake that ends up being so cool that you start to hope it can be implemented on a much more permanent basis.
This is exactly what happened in Cyberpunk 2077 recently. As discovered over on Reddit by octoberoclock, developer CD Projekt RED seems to have accidentally added a very basic companion system to the game. Basically, if you leave in the middle of a quest that features NPC support, that NPC can then follow you around Night City, including during other missions. Perfect for those of us that want the fantastic Judy Alvarez with us at all times, right?

Unfortunately, it seems that CDPR is aware that this kind of thing can happen, so it's unclear how much longer this accidental companion system will remain in the game. Patch notes for the recent 1.05 update all platforms confirm that the developer patched an issue that would lead to Dum Dum following the player after The Pickup, one of the game's earliest missions.

It's unclear if other NPCs following you will have been completely fixed in the same update, or if it's a wider problem that will require more work. Although when I say "problem", I don't really mean it - this bug is fantastic, and I really hope CDPR considers adding a proper companion system into Cyberpunk 2077 somewhere down the line.
Not that new content can be the priority right now, of course. Cyberpunk 2077 is still a mess on last-gen consoles, and CDPR is singularly focused on delivering updates and fixes as and when it can, with two larger patches expected in January and February.
"We would appreciate it if you gave us a chance," CDPR said in a frank statement last week. "But if you are not pleased with the game on console and don't want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy."
