'Cyberpunk 2077' Dev Admits The Game Has Too Many Dildos, Will Tone It Down

Not the right vibe.

In Cyberpunk 2077, pretty much everyone is obsessed with sex. Walking around Night City is like being trapped inside the head of a hormonal teenager, with sexually suggestive adverts round every corner and a sex toy in every store.

That's not an exaggeration, by the way. Dildos are a prominent fixture in Night City, to the extent that you genuinely stop noticing them. It's kind of like how many Greggs there are in Manchester - you stop being surprised that they're all over the place after a while and just accept that you can grab a sausage roll whenever you fancy it.

Kotaku's Nathan Grayson recently went as far as documenting all the dildos he'd collected on his in-game travels, before getting in touch with developer CD Projekt RED to ask the obvious: why so many sex toys?

As it turns out, even the studio that built the game has to admit there are a "distracting" number of dildos lurking in Night City, and that it plans to tone down the number of plastic wangs in a future update.

Speaking to Kotaku, senior quest designer Philipp Weber explained that the team wanted Night City to "be pretty open sexually", somewhere "something by today's standards might be taboo or kinky is very normal and commonplace by 2077 standards."

He went on to add that while a lot of the dildos were put in by design, the fact that some do spawn as loot could have contributed to the fact some of us are seeing a lot more of them than we might have expected to, even in a place as, um, sexually liberated as Night City.

"The second reason for the high amount of dildos in the world is because they can spawn as random loot," he said. "We were still tweaking those settings, so especially during the early reviews, the amount of dildos in the game world was pretty high. We're going to adjust them so that the dildos don't appear too out of place/context and distracting and more where they should be by design."

So there you have it, gang. Prepare yourselves for the great dildo purge of 2077, which I assume will be just one of the many updates coming to Cyberpunk 2077 over the next few weeks and months.
