Rest in peace, Samurai.

Cyberpunk 2077 is just a few short days away from release, but there are those who have been waiting to play CD Projekt RED's ambitious sci-fi RPG for years. That patience is very soon to be rewarded for the vast majority... but unfortunately not everyone that waited all this time will get to experience the game.

Over on Twitter, fans have drawn attention to a truly gut-wrenching comment that was recently posted on the very first Cyberpunk 2077 trailer. It's worth noting that this teaser trailer was released by CD Projekt RED seven years ago, further highlighting just what a long road to release it's been. The comment in question is just a few weeks old however, and was apparently posted under the video by the friend of a gamer who passed away not too long ago. From COVID-19.

"My friend was waiting for this game," MithaToca wrote. "He was talking about it all the bloody time. When he saw Keanu [Reeves] he was even more hyped. Then he died of COVID-19. I will play it for you buddy, RIP."

Commenters on YouTube and Twitter alike were quick to share their sympathies, and also expressed an intention to keep MithaToca's friends in their thoughts the first time they booted up Cyberpunk 2077. This tragic story definitely serves as a welcome reminder that for all the crap that's happened this year, the fact some of us are still here and able to enjoy something as simple as a new game we've been waiting for is absolutely not to be taken for granted.

Cyberpunk 2077
is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on December 10th. A next-gen version is expected to be released as a free upgrade at some point in 2021.
