It's no secret that games change a lot during development. Brand-new features are added, while others are removed entirely. CD Projekt RED's upcoming sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is no stranger to this practice.

A handful of trailers for the game back in 2018 showed a pretty cool wall-running mechanic. It had serious Titanfall vibes, so even if it wasn't immediately clear what exactly being able to run across walls added to Cyberpunk 2077 , I was on board. Unfortunately, it turns out that particular feature has since been scrapped due to "design reasons".

In a recent interview with GameReactor, level designer Max Pears explained why the cool-looking traversal mechanic was ultimately cut. "Ah, the wall running - that is something that we removed due to design reasons, but there's still going to be a lot of flexibility in how you move, that's for sure."

Previous footage showed the player using wall-running in conjunction with fearsome Mantis Blades to skip across a wall before leaping down to assassinate an enemy below. While undeniably awesome, I have to assume that the feature just wasn't that essential to the overall experience.

Going off what Pears said, it sounds like there are still going to be plenty of options when it comes to moving around and taking out enemies. As an RPG with a focus on first-person combat we already know that players will be able to approach situations in a multitude of ways. It'll be interesting to see what other tricks and mechanics CDPR has come up with.

In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, we recently learned that the game will be censored in Japan. Minor changes have been to much of the game's nudity, cutting down sex scenes and covering up naked characters with underwear. Billboards, graffiti, and assorted "genital-shaped objects" have also either been edited or completely removed.

The good news is that "the act of dismemberment itself during combat is not changed in any way," according to a statement from CDPR. It also explains that it hasn't actually cut any characters, gameplay moments, or events. You'll be still be getting the Cyberpunk 2077, then, just in a watered down form.

It's not a huge surprise that Cyberpunk 2077 has had to tone itself down a bit in some areas. Leaked ratings put the game at an R/18+, and have described it as a particularly grown up game with some weighty themes.
