'Cyberpunk 2077' Is Now Playable Entirely In Third-Person

Third is the word.

Cyberpunk 2077 has its fair share of problems, but there was once a time where one of the game's biggest controversies was that it could only be played in first-person. It seems slightly wild to think that was once the peak of the game's issues, and I find myself longing for that simpler time.

While I personally never had an issue with the idea of Cyberpunk 2077 being an entirely first-person adventure, I know a lot of people felt developer CD Projekt RED should have included the option for players to switch between first and third-person perspectives, like you can in games like Skyrim and Fallout 3. Given the game's heavy emphasis on customisation, I guess that would have been nice... not a deal breaker though.

The good news is that the inevitable third-person mod has finally arrived, and you can download it for yourself right now. The bad news is that it can only be used on PC... although I'm not sure who is even left playing Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles at this point.

The mod was created by sarunama over on Nexusmods and can be downloaded right here. Installation and use of the mod is demonstrated in the below video, courtesy of Slothability. It should be noted that this mod is still a work in progress, which means you'll probably run into some glitches along the way. Insert obvious joke about Cyberpunk 2077 being broken already here.

The issue of combat is still something that clearly needs to be solved in third-person, as you can probably see from the video. Since CDPR designed everything to be in first-person, watching your character desperately flail their arms about as if they exist independently of your body is unintentionally hilarious. It may be best to revert to first-person for any combat scenarios until modders can find a more elegant solution.

Besides that minor niggle, this is a pretty awesome mod that will finally let you strut your stuff around Night City the way so many fans wanted to since before the game launch. Hopefully CDPR may even add some kind of official third-person support to Cyberpunk 2077 at some point, though I imagine that would have to be after the team has sorted out the game's more pressing issues.
