Be careful what you ask for.

It seems wild to think this, given the events of the last week or so, but there was a time when one of the biggest concerns about Cyberpunk 2077 among fans was that it would be a first-person game.

I never quite understood why this was considered a Bad Thing, but I know a lot of people felt like developer CD Projekt RED should include the option for players to switch between first and third-person perspectives, like you can in games like Skyrim and Fallout 3. I guess it would have been nice to see what my custom character was wearing without having to look in a mirror... I didn't exactly lose sleep over it though.

Fast forward a few months later, and whether or not you can play Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person is probably the least of most people's problems. Still, if you are at all curious about what the open-world sci-fi RPG looks like from a different perspective, we've got you covered. Some new footage from an unofficial third-person mod for the game (on PC of course) has surfaced, and it looks great.

Take a look at it for yourself below, or via this link (thanks, Cineagle).

Pretty awesome, right? I'm not a huge fan of the way she runs a lot like the way my grandad used to jog into the living room in the mornings, but it's a lot more impressive looking than I was expecting. Who knows, maybe this is the kind of thing CDPR could add in an official capacity? Once the more pressing issues are dealt with, of course.

It's also worth noting that this brief video doesn't really show off what combat might look like in third-person, as I suspect that's an issue still needing to be smoothed out by modders. The combat was clearly entirely built around third person, after all, so it would need some serious finessing. There doesn't seem to be anything modders can't do, however, so it probably won't be long till it's sorted.

PC remains to be the place to play Cyberpunk 2077, from the looks of it. I'm not jealous at all.
