Bright lights, bigger city.

There's been an awful lot of discussion around the size of Cyberpunk 2077, both in terms of the game's overall length and in how large the open world is. It's reasonable to want to know about this kind of stuff, of course. Especially when it comes to one of the most-antipcated releases of the last several years... one from the same studio behind the mammoth experience that was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, no less.

The good news is that Cyberpunk 2077 definitely won't be on the small side. We've already heard about the eye-watering amount of hours at least one developer has lost to the game so far, with roughly 175 hours exploring Night City without having seen the credits roll. However one thing we've been less sure about up till now is the size of the open-world Night City and its surrounding areas.

We've seen and heard various estimates over the past few months that put the game's world into all kinds of shapes and sizes, but now that Cyberpunk 2077 is actually out in the wild and into the hands of a select number of lucky gamers, a clearer picture is starting to emerge. YouTuber EdgeRunner Cold recently managed to estimate the size of the game's map using leaked footage and other official information released by CD Projekt RED. While we won't be sharing any leaked footage here, we can tell you that EdgeRunner Cold has estimated that Night City is roughly twice the size of GTA V's San Andreas.

For context, the GTA V map is roughly 127 square kilometers, which would put Cyberpunk's world at an impressive 254 sq km. That's considerably larger than previous estimates for the game, several of which put Night City at smaller than The Witcher 3's combined 136 sq km. Again, these are just estimates, although the resources EdgeRunner Cold worked with to come to their conclusion are easily the most accurate yet.

It's also worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077's size (or lack thereof) shouldn't really be considered a deciding factor in whether or not you buy the game. As you've probably already seen from countless gameplay demos, Night City is an incredibly dense location packed with things to see and do. And what's the use of a massive open world if there's nothing to do in it, right?
