Cyberpunk 2077 lead gameplay designer Andrzej Zawadzki has announced that he'll be leaving CD Projekt RED after nearly eight years working at the studio.
Zawadzki started off as a QA tester working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its two expansions, before rising through the ranks to help lead development of the Cyberpunk 2077. He had a handful of roles while working on the ambitious sci-fi adventure, including RPG coordinator. In March 2020, he became the game's senior gameplay designer.
The developer announced his departure on Twitter, writing, "After almost eight years, my time at CDPR has come to an end. It's time for the new adventure. To every person I've met on the way - thank you :) It was an honor and pleasure. See you around :)".

Zawadzki hasn't explained why he's decided it's time to move on from CDPR, but he did state in a follow-up post to peers that he'd be taking a "long holiday" before seeking out his next role. Given the rough story of Cyberpunk 2077's development, launch, and disastrous reception over the last few months, I'd say he's certainly earned a rest. Hell, everyone at CDPR has.
It's also worth noting that he was one of the more vocal members of the CDPR team on Twitter, making it clear that the death threats sent out against he and his colleagues in the wake of Cyberpunk 2077's various delays were completely unacceptable. Which, of course, they absolutely were.

Meanwhile, CDPR will continue to work on Cyberpunk 2077, improving the game's various glitches and issues with substantial patches while preparing to release the next-gen version of the game later this year.
