'Cyberpunk 2077' Tops Steam Charts Three Weeks Before It's Even Out

Building up a head of Steam.

CD Projekt RED's hugely ambitious sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 isn't even out until December 10th, but expectations are reaching intense levels. Will it live up to the near-unbearable hype surrounding it? That's impossible to say at this stage, but it looks like we can say it's going to be a huge sales success - it's already at the very top of the Steam charts, with three weeks to go before release.

As spotted by The Gamer over the weekend, the Steam charts collect data on the top ten best-selling games by revenue once per week. As of yesterday, Cyberpunk 2077 was at the very top of the pile, followed closely by the Valve Index VR Kit, Phasmophobia, Among Us, and Football Manager 2021. That's not bad company to be in, especially for a game that isn't actually available yet.

As I say, it remains to be seen if Cyberpunk 2077 will deliver on all its promises, but it looks clear even at this stage that it's going to make a lot of money for CD Projekt RED.

In other Cyberpunk 2077 news, CDPR recently outlined the first batch of free DLC we can expect from the open-world RPG. The studio is hard at work on a smattering of free and paid DLC, but they'll be kicking off the launch of the game with some cosmetic bonuses for anyone who links their purchase with a GOG account.

These freebies include a pretty fetching leather jacket based on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as well as a few other neat bits and bobs that can be used to customise your character. All you need to do to nab these items is link your copy of Cyberpunk 2077 (regardless of platform) with GOG. A transparent attempt for CDPR to send you marketing emails? Perhaps, but I really want that Witcher jacket. Both in real-life and in-game.

Cyberpunk 2077
will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on December 10th. Next-gen versions are also on the way for PS5 and Xbox Series S, though these free upgrades aren't expected until 2021.
