'Cyberpunk 2077' Patch 1.2 Update Basically Defunds The Police In Night City

The police of Night City are getting nerfed as part of the latest Cyberpunk 2077 update. Their ability to immediately appear at the first sniff of any player wrongdoing, surely supported by extravagantly extensive investment in the force by the city's ruling bodies, will be stripped away, creating a more realistic situation whenever V gets up to no good. I mean, as realistic as anything can be in the game's sci-fi open-world, obviously.

It's been a hard first few months for Cyberpunk 2077. The game's PlayStation version was removed from sale after a launch period beset by game-breaking bugs - and you still can't buy the game on the PlayStation Store (the first search result, if you Google it, is for refunds, which really says everything). Some two million copies of the Keanu Reeves-starring game were refunded by early February, just a couple of months after release. And then there was the hack that befell developers CD Projekt Red. Yep, a hard first few months.

Some of those bugs were funny, though - check out the video above for a refresher of how Cyberpunk 2077 could go wrong, with You've Been Framed-style results.

But it does feel like a corner is, slowly, being turned. Patch 1.2 does, according to CDPR (via Eurogamer), change a lot of significant things. First and maybe foremost, there's the police tweak. Cops will no longer instantly spawn when you've committed a crime, allowing protagonist V to at least try to make their escape without things exploding into a gun fight every time.

Driving throughout Night City is to become more fluid, with a sensitivity option for steering being added to the settings. Also being added is the option to "unstick" a vehicle should it become, well, stuck on a piece of the environment. Another new setting for keyboard players allows dodging to be mapped to something other than the crouch command.

You can check out how the Night City police respond, with the new patch active, in the video below.
