'Dark Souls' Is Finally Getting A Direct Sequel, All Thanks To The Fans

Those that are talented enough to modify games are really something else. They dive into every nook and cranny, rip out the insides, and then often make something beautiful and new from the remains. Dark Souls is a great target for many of those modders such as the group developing Nightfall.

Dark Souls: Nightfall is a massive mod for Dark Souls being developed by a group of such talented folk. They go by Grimrukh, AinTunez, and Meowmaritus (among other modders helping) and they recently had their work highlighted on Reddit as the next Dark Souls mod to look out for.

The team have a blog post that explains how they're going about creating such an ambitious project and what to expect from a fan-made sequel to the 2011 hit. First, it's a direct sequel to Dark Souls where the team will work on expanding the lore of the original, including new talking NPCs to interact with. It will have a new map based off of the original assets rather than making their own - but it's not going to be based in the original areas of Dark Souls.

The combat will be faster than the original Dark Souls too. If you've played the original you'll know that the slow speed of your protagonist can be a bit of a drag at times, the team is changing it to be a new take on fighting which will be lead by the ideas of Meowmaritus as they created this Quick Souls Mod.

Basically, we're really excited to try out this mod ourselves. Maybe it's our general love of Dark Souls or perhaps it's because we're still waiting on Elden Ring to show its face again after the very brief reveal trailer we got of it in 2019. We mean, come on FromSoftware, it's getting rude now, we just want to play your cool new game, please.
