Darth Maul Actor Teases Return In Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

Maul or nothing.

The upcoming Disney+ Obi Wan Kenobi series has a rare chance to revisit the much maligned prequels and build on what actually worked.

Ewan McGregor as as an older Obi Wan struggling with all the ways in which he accidentally helped make the galaxy's most feared warrior? Check. Hayden Christensen free to reprise his role as Anakin without worrying about creepy dialogue and direction that makes him look he's about to send a dead puppy to Padme's flat for Valentine's Day? Big check. No Jar Jar? Unconfirmed, but please god let there be a check.

All in all, it sounds as if Obi Wan Kenobi is aiming to bring back everything that worked about the prequels... and such a series wouldn't be complete without a certain Sith badass. I'm talking, of course, about Darth Maul. One of the best things about Phantom Menace, Maul was criminally underused in the first prequel film. If it weren't for that epic fight at the end of the movie and the refusal of fans to forget him, I'm unsure he would have remained as popular as he is. Fortunately he's clung to life, and it sounds like he's headed for a rematch with Obi Wan. Drama.

Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in the first film (but didn't voice him, oddly enough), recently took to Instagram to tease his return. Over on his Instagram page he shared a photo of the familiar horned prosthetic, along with the caption: "Meet me on Dathomir! SITH LIFE!" The location of the post was also tagged as Tatooine, where we know we'll find Obi Wan for at least part of the Disney+ series.

Park's picture could be teasing any number of projects - it could even be an old photo and the actor is just having some fun with us, although it'd be a slightly odd move to play with fan expectations like that.

Given the relationship between Obi Wan and Darth Maul - the latter straight-up murdered the former's Master, remember - the upcoming series ending with a climatic duel between the two would be a hell of a way to go. Heck, you could even have Obi Wan and Darth Vader reluctantly teaming up one last time to take down Maul. How awesome would that be? Okay I've overexcited myself and need to lie down.
