If you didn't know already, Dave Bautista loves Gears of War - and more specifically, he loves the idea of playing the series' most famous soldier, Marcus Fenix. The WWE fighter turned actor has been battling his way through Hollywood to try and get a Gears of War movie made but with no success so far. Now a report has surfaced that suggests that he's also interested in working on a TV series based on the games, if a movie is off the cards.

You might have seen us report on how Bautista's been pushing for a Gears movie for a long time, ever since Universal acquired the rights to the film adaptation - and he even turned down a role in a Fast and Furious film to pursue Gears instead. Bautista is even in Gears 5 as a full-on replacement for the original Marcus Fenix model, so we know the developers are on his side too.

Dave Bautista's most recent project saw him in the middle of a zombie apocalypse in Netflix's Army of the Dead...

Now according to We Got This Covered, the actor is not only pushing for a movie, but he's happy to play Marcus Fenix in a show if that's what Universal prefers to pursue. And we say yes, frankly. Universal, come on, how can you not want to make a project like this? It seems like a perfect action movie just ripe for the picking. And besides, if you don't want to make it, there is someone else who wants to.

The report from We Got This Covered also notes that Netflix is interested in taking on a Gears project starring Bautista if the opportunity arises. Netflix has recently worked with the actor on Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, a Las Vegas-set zombie heist film released earlier this year. The subscription company has a relationship with the actor and has been working hard on gaming adaptations for The Witcher, Assassin's Creed, and more, so it's well positioned to take on another, similar project.

Whoever ends up playing the square-jawed leading man of all things Gears of War, fans of Xbox's franchise and gamers everywhere would surely love a solid film or show, so long as it's true to the spirit of the Gears series. So... guns, gore and loads of guys called Carmine getting killed off, then.
