Everyone, drop everything. Smallville is coming back to the small screen, as per a covert announcement from actor Tom Welling, and excitingly, a fair few members of the original cast are slated to return to their roles.

Speaking in a Cameo to a fan, Welling revealed that there is an animated revival of the beloved TV series in the works. Welling, of course, played Clark Kent in the show, which followed the character's journey to becoming Superman as he navigated the stresses of high school and the normalcy of living in a sleepy town. "Maybe there's a Smallville marathon coming your way," he said while standing in the shade on what appears to be a ranch. "Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life and use as many of the original cast members as possible. Don't tell anybody though, it's a secret, we're still working on it."

Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor, who strikes up a friendship with Clark Kent which ultimately corrupts as the two characters' moral trajectories diverge and cause a rift between them. Though we don't know who else has been approached for this project to bring back Smallville, we've got our fingers crossed that Erica Durance, Kristin Kreuk, Sam Jones III, Annette O'Toole, John Schneider, Laura Vandervoort and others are willing to give it a shot. In the sixth annual Crisis on Infinite Earths episode of Batwoman, Welling and Durance appeared as Clark and Lois respectively, and it saw the characters living on a farm after the hero gives up his powers to settle down and start a family.

Animated versions of popular media are the latest thing nowadays, and thinking off the top of my head, there's Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Army Of The Dead's Lost Vegas prequel and a Tomb Raider anime coming out of Netflix. Right now, we don't know what the timeframe the Smallville revival is working to, nor how far along it is in its development. Still, it's music to the ears of fans who thought that the show was done, and it might even encourage new DC Comics fans onto the scene.
