'Dead Island 2' Is Still In Development And On The Way, Developer Assures Fans

Following the development of Dead Island 2 has been a real rollercoaster, hasn't it? The open-world zombie game has been on and off more times than Ross and Rachel from Friends, and has been passed around more developers than a bong at a house party. Will it ever come out? We've had our doubts, but publisher Deep Silver recently teased that the game is still alive and well.

Reassuring a sceptical fan on Twitter, Deep Silver suggested that the reports of Dead Island 2's death had been greatly exaggerated. They added that while they're not quite ready to share anything more just yet, we should stay tuned to Deep Silver's social media channels for any updates - implying that something is coming soon.

A brief history of Dead Island 2, for those of you who haven't kept up. THQ Nordic surprised us all back in August 2019 when they confirmed that the project was still around, and that development has moved over to Dambuster Studios. For context, this is the third studio who has been given the sequel in the space of five years. Yikes.

Development originally started at Yager Development, before Sumo Digital took over in 2016. Whether or not Dambuster will be the team to get this seemingly-doomed project over the line and into stores remains to be seen. Deep Silver parent company Koch Media seemed pretty confident about the situation, at the time though, and argued that the turbulent development was a sign of everyone's commitment to getting the sequel just right. Okay then.

While this latest tease isn't quite the substantial update some of us might have been hoping for, this is at least a positive sign for those that kind of assumed Dead Island 2 had been forgotten about. Again. Previous rumours had suggested we'd see the game in 2020 but, you know, look around you. That ain't happening. Maybe next year, then.
