'Dishonored' Developer's New Game ‘Deathloop’ Is About Time-Travelling Assassins

The spirit of Dishonored lives on in 'Deathloop', a game where two super-powered assassins hunt each other down on a barren island.

While Arkane hasn't been idle since the release of Prey - it released Prey: Mooncrash last year at E3 and it's been working with Machine Games on Wolfenstein: Youngblood - you might have been wondering what it's next full-blooded new game release would be. I know I have been. Well, during Bethesda's E3 press conference game director Dinga Bakaba and art director Sébastien Mitton took to the stage to announce Deathloop, a game about two assassins trapped in a time loop trying to kill each other.

While Arkane didn't show off anything of the game on stage it did release this stellar trailer:

In the trailer we see some lovely gunplay but also a few powers, including a Blink-like teleport and a force push-style attack. So there's definitely the DNA of Dishonored and Prey in Deathloop.

Of the game, Bakaba said that Deathloop "Combines mind-bending story" with the "meticulously designed levels" Arkane has come to be known for, as well as the studio's tradition of letting you play however you want.

The video description on YouTube gives a little more detail. "Deathloop transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins. Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don't succeed... die, die again."

It's not clear what exactly you'll be doing in the game. For a start, both on stage and in the description above, there were references to levels, suggesting Deathloop has a linear campaign. But how the time loop structure will fit into that is unclear.

Essentially Deathloop has left us with a lot of questions but that first trailer looks great and I can't wait to learn more about how it works. Let us know on Facebook and Twitter. And, while you're at it, why not check out the GAMINGbible Snapchat?Featured Image Credit: Zenimax Media
