Mysterious New Door Appears In 'Demon's Souls' Remake That Nobody Can Figure Out

Demon's Souls has a strange door that has appeared in the remake, and not in the original game, so players are doing their utmost to prise it open to see what's inside.

The remake is the work of Bluepoint Games, the modernising mavericks with a storied relationship with PlayStation and Sony. You might recognise the name from their remasters of the Metal Gear Solid series, the Uncharted series, and their remake of Shadow of the Colossus released in 2018. Bluepoint Games has a track record of adding its own flair to their projects, like the hidden door in Shadow of the Colossus revealing the Sword of Dormin to those who proved worthy (i.e. collecting enough "Gold Coins" across the world before returning to the starting temple).

This one has players utterly foxed, though. And, this door was definitely not there in the original Demon's Souls from 2009 for the PlayStation 3, so there's no handy hints to be found in that game. The door is in World 1-3, if the player goes through the Tower Knight Archstone, and you'd be forgiven for sailing past it if you didn't know it was there. In a dark and dingy corner of the Boletarian Palace, there it lies, after a flight of stairs to an illusory wall, and drowning in a pile of rubble at the end of a nondescript corridor. And it's taunting players, the jammy jokester.

At the moment, no one has been able to prise it open, but we do have an idea of what is beyond this odd door. Clipping through the walls in Photo Mode, one player snapped a screenshot of a balcony in pitch-black shadow, bar a glowing item on a pedestal. It looks a little like one of those LED fountain lights that used to be all the rage in the early 2000s. No word yet on whether it has a rainbow setting. As the door states that it is locked, like many other unlockable doors in the game, players are trying everything and anything to get it open.

There are no keys and no levers that are in the level, and Pure Black World Tendency and Pure White World Tendency don't cause the door to open. Wearing different armors makes no difference, and killing all of the enemies in the level leaves you with a lot of dead bodies and no unlockable door. Sprinting to the door as soon as the level loads doesn't work, and neither does approaching the door in total stealth.

Is it impossible? Maybe. But, Reddit user You_Nwah has their own theory. You remember that hidden door in Shadow of the Colossus that would only be revealed with enough Gold Coins? Well, Demon's Souls for the PlayStation introduces a new Gold Coin item, which is dropped by the Fat Official when killed. The Fat Official is also found in World 1-3. We'll keep you in the loop when the players crack the code.
