Picture the scene. You're sat inside a smoky small-town pub enjoying a warm pint of Carlsberg in the depths of another underwhelming British weekend. Across the bar you see a couple of dubiously-cologned gentlemen in their mid 50s, one of them shifting uncomfortably in his seat. After a moment of agitation, he can't contain himself any longer, and sucks in enough air to ask possibly one of the greatest questions of our time.
"'Ere Gary," he begins profoundly "why ain't Capcom 'ad the minerals to remake that Dino Crisis game for modern day consoles using their fancy new RE engine? It just don't make no sense is all." Gary, doesn't have an answer. Because Gary doesn't know why Capcom haven't remade Dino Crisis using their fancy new RE engine. Nobody does.
Thankfully, some dedicated fans in the form of Team Arklay have been beavering away to bring the much-loved title into the modern age, and have released a full trailer of their efforts on the gorgeous Unreal Engine 4, check it out here.
This isn't our first look at the project, with Team Arklay showing us some of their efforts back in July, but this trailer has a whole lot more going on. For one, we now have some actual dinosaurs, and even get a glimpse of the infamous T-Rex-in-the-office moment recreated in all its high-definition glory. You love to see it.
As PC Gamer report, the project is still a work in progress and there are a few rough edges here and there, but the overall scope and ambition of the project are clearly laid out. This is an undertaking of gigantic proportions. Or should that be Jurassic proportions? No, probably not.
Naturally now the Dino Crisis fan remake project is gathering steam and getting attention, we shouldn't expect it to be too long before Capcom officially step in and shut things down, as is always the way.
The 20th anniversary of the original game came and went without so much as a whisper from Capcom, so fingers crossed Team Arklay manage to see this through to the end uninterrupted. Of course if Capcom did have something they're working on behind the scenes to reignite the Dino Crisis franchise, I know a couple of blokes down the Red Lion who would be very happy to hear about it.
What would you want from a new Dino Drisis game? Would a remake be the best thing Capcom can do with the franchise? Let us know on our Facebook and Twitter.
