Dino Crisis Remake Looks Likely As Capcom Files New Trademark

Dino Crisis Remake Looks Likely As Capcom Files New Trademark

Roarsome news.

Fans longing for a remake of Dino Crisis have suffered in silence for too long. And by "suffered in silence," I mean they've spent the last few years very vocally demanding a new entry in the cult Capcom survival horror. The good news is that we've been given fresh hope that, when partnered with the last few months of teases and rumours, makes a Dino Crisis return look more likely than ever.

Capcom has found considerable success this year by reviving classic franchises in new and exciting ways. Resident Evil 2 - a remake of the 1998 classic - was a massive critical and commercial success that's already outsold the original version. Devil May Cry V was also a huge hit, prompting Capcom to announce that it intended to dive further into its back catalogue of old IPs and assess which games might benefit from a similar shot in the arm.

It would seem Capcom plans to keep to its word. A number of Japanese trademark filing recently discovered by Bloody Disgusting show that the veteran developer has filed multiple fresh trademarks for a several classic IPs, including Mega Man, Power Stone, Darkstalkers, and - you guessed it - Dino Crisis. Hoo boy.

Now, it's not hugely uncommon for a company to file trademarks for old properties every now and again to ensure its hold on certain franchises, but the timing is particularly suspect. We know for a fact that Capcom wants to "awaken dormant intellectual properties" as part of its strategy for next year. After Resident Evil, Dino Crisis is arguably the next most in-demand franchise when it comes to remakes.

The dinosaur-theme survival horror was an instant hit when it first landed on PlayStation in 1999. Sadly, the franchise didn't stick around for very long. Dino Crisis 3 - released in 2003 - was a bit naff, and ultimately nudged the franchise into obscurity. Regardless, the first two titles remain so beloved by gamers that they've managed to keep the flame alive.

Also, let's be honest, even if you'd never heard of Dino Crisis... are you telling me you wouldn't play a next-gen survival horror with dinosaurs, from the company that gave us Resident Evil 2? Of course you bloody would. Just imagine how much more terrifying those reptilian bastards and gloomy corridors would be in the new Resi engine, too.

While we wait for official news of a Dino Crisis remake of some kind, we do have another remake to look forward to from Capcom. Resident Evil 3 is coming April 3rd next year. A re-imagining of 1999's tense survival horror sequel, Resident Evil 3 serves as further proof that Capcom knows exactly what the fans want right now. The dinosaurs are surely just around the corner.
