The Real Life Lightsaber Disney Has Made Looks Shockingly Good

So when can I buy one?

I think there isn't a nerd in the galaxy that hasn't thought about owning a proper lightsaber before. It's a cooler, glowier, deadlier version of a sword, and symbolises the ultimate badass weapon in pop culture. Though there are a lot of interpretations of the saber as a toy - like those plastic extending ones, or the fully extended glass lightsabers that glow beautifully - we've never really seen a true lightsaber lookalike. We've never got the full impossibly-long-glowstick-appears-from-the-handle experience, until now.

Disney seems to have worked out how to make a lightsaber that looks legitimately real for its parks. In a new video showing the actress who will be playing Rey at Disney World Resort, a prop is shown off that the entertainment company knew would shock fans. A real, extending lightsaber. And I want one.

Watch below to see the lightsaber come to life as we've never seen before:

The video (that aims to advertise the Galactic Starcruiser experience) shows that Disney's Imagineers have been working hard on a prop that seemed impossible. The Imagineering Research and Development part of the company is where a lot of smart people work out how to bring Disney's fantastical worlds to the parks for people to enjoy. This lightsaber is just one of the jaw-dropping designs that are likely to be found in the Galactic Starcruiser experience.

Disney has released a lot of concept imagery for the new two-day attraction on its blog, detailing that the ship passengers will be on is a Halcyon starcruiser which is made on Corellia, the same planet as the Millennium Falcon. Of course, food onboard will be suitably alien, and if you're traversing the galaxy you'll need some lightsaber training too. It seems like Disney is doing everything it can to transport guests into the world of Star Wars, and the lightsaber will be the cherry on top.

The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser experience should be coming to Disney World in 2022.
