Dogecoin Can Now Be Exchanged For PC Parts Following Huge Surge In Value

And it's not from a doge-y website.

It's 2021 and somehow one of the most valuable cryptocurrencies (completely virtual money) is based on a meme of a dog looking kind of sideways. This coin is now so well regarded and stable that you can exchange real products for it. We live in a strange time, huh?

That's right, Dogecoin can now be directly exchanged for real products thanks to a forward-thinking hardware retailer, Newegg. The coin's success has been soaring, in part because of Elon Musk's Twitter account, and it's now so valuable that Newegg is comfortable exchanging PC parts for the currency. Impressive for a meme.

Actually, Elon Musk is such an interesting individual that Louis Theroux wants to make a documentary on him:

According to PCGamer and WCCFTech Newegg isn't exactly shy of cryptocurrency. It has previously allowed people to pay for hardware on its site with Bitcoin for a while now

For reference, Dogecoin has grown hugely in the past year. At this time in 2020 it was valued at $0.06 USD but now, 12 months on, it's now worth $0.4 USD. That's a growth of about 640% - no wonder so many people are trying to buy into it as soon as they can, it just doesn't seem to stop growing.

The press release from Newegg (via WDDFTech) says that the retailer made the move to celebrate #DogeDay (April 20). If you're American, you might know it more as 4/20 which, of course, has yet another meaning to it regarding a green, uh, herb. Of course, DogeDay had to share a day with weed, it just seems appropriate.

In any case, Newegg has been accepting Bitcoin since 2014 and now is obviously interested in accepting more cryptocurrencies if they show enough worth. The senior brand manager for Newegg, Andrew Choi, says "The excitement and momentum around cryptocurrency are undeniable, and the recent surge in Dogecoin value underscores the need to make it easier for customers to make purchases with this popular cryptocurrency. We're committed to making it easy for our customers to shop however works best for them, and that means letting them complete transactions with the payment method that suits them best. To that end, we're happy to give Dogecoin fans an easy way to shop online for tech."

So if you're in the market for any new PC parts and you happen to have some Dogecoin lying around, it might be worth buying from Newegg. Or you could keep that money safe and use real currency to see if Dogecoin continues to grow.
