'Dying Light 2' Will Launch This Year, Developer Confirms Alongside New Footage

As promised, Techland delivered an update on the development of Dying Light 2 this week. The bad news is that this update wasn't anywhere near as substantial as many fans had been hoping for, and did nothing at all to address the recent accusations of a toxic workplace environment.

The good news, if you're still invested in the journey of this open-world zombie RPG, is that Techland seems to think it will be able to deliver the game this year. That's something.

In an incredibly bizarre video (which you can see below) Techland spent the majority of the update reading out angry messages from fans and asking viewers for patience. I'm not sure if they were consciously channeling Celebrities Read Mean Tweets or not, but that's what they ended up with. Again, nothing on the concerning workplace allegations made just a few weeks ago, which really does seem like an odd omission, given... everything.

"This is a huge and complex project and we needed time to make sure it will live up to our vision," Techland explained in the video. "All of us here are putting our hearts into delivering a game that you will keep playing for months."

To be fair to Techland, the team were pretty upfront about managing expectations for this particular update. They said days before that there wouldn't be a release date reveal or any kind of substantial look at gameplay, so anyone going in hoping for much more than what we got can really only blame themselves.

With that said, we did get a very brief look at what appears to be in-engine footage right before the video ended with a "2021" splash card. While Techland didn't specifically mention 2021 in the video, that ending would strongly suggest that the studio is currently aiming to release Dying Light 2 this year.

Whether or not that actually ends up being the case is anyone's guess, but Techland did promise that it'd be ready to talk more about the game "very, very soon". Watch this space, I guess.
