'Dying Light 2' Won't Feature Romance Options, Says Developer

Dying Light 2 feels like it has been in development forever. After the release of Dying Light and Dying Light: The Following, fans of Techland's zombie world have been patiently waiting to return to the apocalypse. As we're drawing closer to the release of Dying Light 2, the development team have begun answering questions on its YouTube channel, so players know what to expect when the title comes out - and this includes information on romances.

With RPGs and big open-world games these days, there's a bit of an expectation that your character might be able to do a little flirting here and there, get lucky, or even get married. In the original Dying Light, there was a relationship brooding between Kyle Crane and Jade Aldemir, so a fan asked if romantic interests are going to be expanded upon in Dying Light 2. Well, according to lead game designer Tymon Smetkała, fans shouldn't expect a huge romance arc or mechanic to explore.

The interview spotted by FragHero says: "For sure, you will experience very strong, very complex relations between people. Between the main character and the NPCs, and between the NPCs themselves. And of course, there will be quite a few very strong female characters. But we don't have a romance option like in BioWare's games for example [Mass Effect], because this was never our goal."

Well, that's a shame for anyone that was expecting a story you can select romance options for. However, I don't think a zombie apocalypse is really a good time for finding a partner. I wouldn't say getting married would be at the top of my list of things to do in those circumstances - where would you even go for your honeymoon?
