Following the launch of its latest iteration of the popular annual footballing series FIFA 20, EA Sports have scored something of an own goal in leaking the personal details of 1,600 global series players to the general public. Unbelievable Jeff.
The registration process for the series opened up October 3rd, and had interested parties eagerly filling out the forms they needed to see them entered into the competition with a chance to be a FUT Champions verified competitor.
Sounds simple enough right? Only it isn't, because for some people, the online registration forms were showing other competitors' information, where they were meant to enter their own. The account verification screen was returning other players' email address, date of birth, EA ID and country of residence.
As reported by PCGamer, one such person to get the sensitive information was ex-North and Hashtag United Esports team manager George Hughes, who posted a screen of the error on his Twitter, with censored information.
Because the information was out in the wild and spreading, EA stepped in 30 minutes after registration went live at 1pm to take action. They closed down the application page and after looking for the source of the error, posted on Twitter that they're confident they've fixed the problem.

As stated though, 1,600 people who filled out the registration form before EA pulled it offline may have been affected and at the time of writing, nothing has been said about what to do if you think you might be among them. EA are in the process of contacting people they believe have been affected but if in doubt, it's probably not a bad idea to contact EA either by Twitter or their help desk to find out more, and what can be done about it.
While EA noted that the form has been fixed, it still hasn't been reopened at time of writing, so when players can have another crack at it is anybody's guess. Mind you, not sure I'd be chomping at the bit to be the first to give away my personal information either. At any rate, EA will alert players once it's back up.
FIFA 20 was officially released September 24th and the online FUT mode is by far the most popular portion of the game.
