We've all seen those super creepy abandoned mall videos and photos, haven't we? With the rise of online shopping, residents moving out of certain areas, and a whole host of economic situations, there are malls in the USA that sit abandoned and silent, still, haunting. Well, Epic Games the creators of Fortnite looked at one abandoned mall and thought it was perfect as its next hang out spot.

Epic Games has bought a shopping mall in an effort to rework the entire property into a massive base of production for the work they do - which is actually pretty ingenious. According to Eurogamer the development company in charge of Fortnite and Unreal Engine has agreed to by the Cary Towne Center mall which is a huge 980,000-square-foot in size property.

The idea is to convert the derelict mall into the base of operations for the company over the next three years. It'll require a lot of work, but it'll be an injection of life into this area, surely. Previously, ABC reported that the mall was going to be completely demolished and turned into "Carolina Yards, a facility with shops, homes, and offices." Seems this plan has fallen through, or Epic Games had a better offer for development.

The new base of operations for Epic Games will be located in Cary, North Carolina, just a little bit away from Raleigh. The mall is already a little famous on r/deadmalls where people have posted pictures of the site as it has slowly fallen into disarray. It seems as if the subreddit is going to have to find a new mall to study as this one isn't dead, or even a mall, any longer. Let's just hope that in a few decades time that a new subreddit named dead videogame studios doesn't pop up featuring the same building.
