'Fall Guys' Is Coming To Mobile, But Maybe Don't Get Excited

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is the kind of game that would do incredible things if developer Mediatonic brought it to mobile devices. And by 'the kind of game', I mean it's a battle royale, it's popular and it's almost infinitely monetisable.

Little wonder then, that the game is indeed being plonked onto mobile devices according to industry analyst Daniel Ahmed. The hitch? It's only being eyed for a release in China. Speaking via a tweet, Ahmed noted that Chinese company Bilibili had secured the rights to transport the popular game to handhelds in that region.

Aggrieved Fallers (that's the term I just made up for Fall Guys fans) could search for a mobile version of the game in their other respective territories on iOS and Android, and would without doubt be bombarded with cheap knock-offs of the game, but they wouldn't quite be the genuine article. A bit like getting some Abibas trainers from that dodgy market stall in your hometown.

In fact the rip-off versions of Fall Guys have prompted devs Mediatonic to take action, advising those who see adverts for a mobile version of the game to act with caution, as it is most certainly a cash-grab by some renegade chancer.

So what makes this case more true than any other? Well, we have some corroborating evidence. The Esports Observer (via GameSpot) managed to get access to a Bilibili web page that listed the game as Jelly Bean: Ultimate Knockout. Presumably a localisation effort - I'm not sure how well Fall Guys translates in mandarin. Worse than jelly bean, apparently. Anyway, that page is now no longer accessible, so you might be forgiven for thinking it's not meant to have been accessible just yet, and has hastily been pulled.

Bilibili have ported other popular games to mobile devices in China in the past, including Fate/Grand Order. If you know what that game is, you're a better man than me.

Either way, The Esports Observer asked Mediatonic if they planned to bring the game to mobile. They said that they did, but would not be giving any more details, so for now we play the waiting game. Or just move to China, I guess. Whichever would be quicker.
