Earlier this month modders finally released The Frontier, a massive mod for Fallout: New Vegas, that had been in development for a number of years. Described as the biggest Fallout mod ever, it offered players something akin to a brand-new game. A new playable area the size of the base game's Mojave Desert was the setting for dozens of new quests, vehicles, weapons, and other content.

When the mod launch a few weeks ago, the demand was so high that it managed crash the NexusMods website. This should have been a moment of victory for the team who worked on the project for all these years: that something they created was so popular it was capable of breaking the internet.

Unfortunately, The Frontier has now been removed from NexusMods and a message from the developers alleging that one of the team had shared animated child porn online. Their statement reads:

"Some deeply concerning news has emerged in the past few hours. We have been recently notified that one of our developers, ZuTheSkunk, had posted animated pedophillic content on their personal artist accounts. The items in question are deeply disturbing to the entire team, and we condemn them in the strongest sense. ZuTheSkunk has since been removed from the Development Team and banned off of our Community Discord. We will be conducting dialogue with members of the development team to hear their thoughts regarding the current situation and help make our decision more informed. We have stopped production and work on the mod to address the current events properly. More measures will be undertaken and a more detailed address will be posted soon."

As noted by PC Gamer, The Frontier does contain some content that many players found to be questionable. There's one teenage NPC that can be made into a sex slave for the player, for example. Another settlement is filled with lizard-people that have sex with humans. It's the kind of stuff that would raise an eyebrow at the best of times, but the way in which these things were handled by the mod's writers has come under a lot of criticism.

There's no word yet on if The Frontier will be made available to download again.
