'Far Cry 3' Vaas Actor Teases Return To The Role

'Far Cry 3' Vaas Actor Teases Return To The Role

Do you know the definition of insanity?

I think it's probably fair to say that Far Cry 3's Vaas is one of the most popular villains in gaming. Certainly, he's the most well-known and best-loved character in the entire Far Cry series. Despite only appearing in the one game, actor Michael Mando's outstanding performance as the violent and unpredictable pirate/trafficker deserves all the praise it gets. And it still gets a lot of praise.

I'm sure you'll all be very interested to learn that Mando recently teased the possibility of returning to the role, then. During a recent Reddit AMA, the actor was more than happy to chat about his turn in the Ubisoft game - as well as his role in Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul as conflicted gangster Nacho.

When asked by one fan whether or not he's better known as Nacho these days or still gets recognised as Vaas, Mando said that the Far Cry villain was still his "spirit animal"... before offering a cryptic little tease that suggests he could soon be taking on the role once more.

"Having co-created the character is something that will always be dear to me," Mando explained. "I still get reconised as Vaas, and I still feel the outpouring of love for that character - makes me very happy. Who knows... maybe I'll reprise the role very soon?"

A little later on in the AMA, Mando once again doubled down on the possibility of bringing Vaas back. "Maybe it's time I reprise the role," he wrote, before asking the fans what they thought. As if he doesn't know we'd all wet our pants with excitement.

So I guess we now have to ask ourselves exactly how Vaas could come back? He's unlikely to pop up in a sequel to Far Cry 3, what with him suffering from a nasty case of the deadsies and all. I can't imagine Ubisoft would bother with a remake of the original game either, when a remaster would be way easier (and cheaper).

My best guess? I think we could be looking at a prequel - maybe even one in which Vaas is the lead protagonist? The dude clearly led quite a life before Far Cry 3, and I'd be well up for seeing what kind of awful stuff he got up to back in the day. I also wonder if perhaps he could be teasing some kind of live-action Far Cry series?

That's a bit more of a long shot, but I could see it happening, especially as Ubisoft moves forward with more TV and movie adaptations of its IPs. Plus, you know, Mando actually looks like Vaas - except slightly less terrifying.

At this stage we really don't have anything other than a tease from Mando himself... and he could just be messing with us. We've reached out to Ubisoft for comment and will update this story when we hear back.
