'Far Cry 6' Leaked Release Date Is A Little Sooner Than Expected

A new leak has revealed that Far Cry 6 might be arriving earlier than we had originally thought, moving its proposed release date forward by about a month.

Set on the awe-inspiring island of Yara, this fictional paradise is being jeopardised by its tyrannical dictator, Antón Castillo. Played by Giancarlo Esposito, famous for his roles in The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad, and The Boys, Antón used to be loved by the population, as he promised a restoration of the island to its former riches and status. But, it became clear that this resurrection will require sacrifice, and the politician will be the one wielding the knife. "The idea with Antón is he definitely lulled people into believing this was the only answer for them," said narrative director Navid Khavari.

"That he was the one that was going to solve all their problems. And so for us, it became super-interesting on the character side to explore the idea of, you know, there definitely were some people that voted for him, that believed in him, that now are regretting that choice; and there are those that still support him. The intersection of those demographics and worldviews and opinions is something that plays out in the story as well, and it felt that, as a means to tell a mature story, a complex story, we sort of had to go there."

Quite the departure from the bright and bombastic world of Far Cry: New Dawn, and fans are keen to sink their teeth into a new entry into the series that leans into its more classic cornerstones. Big baddie? Check. Modern time period? Check. Tropical environments? Check. On its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X? Check check. We're very excited to get our mitts on the game, so the news that it might actually launch on April 30th rather than May 26th has intrigued us, indeed. A listing for Far Cry 6 on the Dutch retailer Proxis.com says it's "expected on 30/04/2021."

Now, it's important to view this information with caution. Ubisoft hasn't confirmed nor denied the new date, and the official page for the game on its website states that the game will be available "soon." Conversely, retailers have been bang on about release dates in the past, like Dreams, Persona 5 Scramble, and Prince of Persia. The best thing to do right now is wait and see whether Proxis.com deletes the date from its listing, or whether Ubisoft comes forward with a concrete launch date.

Of course, there is also a Far Cry TV show in development, though you might be surprised to see which of the games it takes inspiration from. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe (yep, that's what it's called) is a "young adult" TV series aiming to "form a multiverse with other Ubisoft titles." The poster is a flamboyant homage to the neon lights of the 1980s, and features a sleek-looking automobile with a license plate that reads "H3LL SC4PE." Indubitably, this has all of the hallmarks of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the one entry into the Far Cry canon that was keen to ham it up in its ridiculous retro-futuristic open world island.
