While there's still a lot about Ubisoft's E3 show, taking place on June 12, that we don't know, what's certain is that we'll see plenty more of Far Cry 6. The October-due open-worlder is set on the fictional island of Yara, a location taking plenty of cues from Cuba, and the action takes place against the backdrop of huge political unrest and revolution.

Politics and beautiful landscapes, Far Cry has done before. So too animal pals you can call upon to help you in combat, and then pet afterwards. What it's not tried before though - at least, not that I can recall (I've played games 2 to 5, but never the first) - is breaking its traditional perspective.

As VG247 reports, Far Cry 6 will switch from a first-person perspective to a third-person one at key points in the game's story. The unexpected shift, albeit a limited one, was confirmed to GameSpot by the game's narrative director Navid Khavari, who says that it's intended to bring the player closer to the game's protagonist, Dani Rojas, who can be played as either a male or female character.

What won't be happening, though, is a way to play through Far Cry 6 totally in third-person mode. Says Khavari of the decision to implement these new sections:

"In cinematics, [third-person] is something the team tried early on, and it felt surprisingly seamless. It instantly felt like there was more of a connection to Dani's journey in the world, more of a connection to this epic story in Yara."

He added in his note to GameSpot: "Players will also be able to see their character customisations in these highly-realised story beats. In Guerrilla Camps, this is also an opportunity for players to be able to see their fully customised character, everything from their backpack to their clothes."

Which is great for people who want to play dress-up while their island home burns, no doubt. We spoke to Navid ourselves last year, when Far Cry 6 was revealed. He said of the sixth main game, then, "I think it feels super fresh" - so here's to a few more surprises popping up before this one comes out for (not Switch!) consoles and PC on October 7.
