'Far Cry Beyond' Will Take The Series In A New Direction In 2022

One step beyond

I think it's fair to say that the Far Cry series has settled into a comfortable groove. Each game offers an increasingly expansive and visually impressive setting, but at its heart? The Ubisoft franchise soon boils down to the same familiar mix of travelling between various waypoints to collect loot and shoot enemies.

I'm certainly not knocking it, to be clear. No other franchise does intense first-person action quite like Far Cry, and based on what I played of Far Cry 6 it looks as if the already successful formula has been further refined and enhanced. Still, there are doubtless gamers out there hoping for something a little different and more surprising from Far Cry.

Take a look at Far Cry 6 in action below!

Fortunately, it looks like the recently announced Far Cry Beyond is set to deliver. Ubisoft has teamed up with Funforge to take the series in an unexpected new direction. By which I mean they're turning the fast-paced and frenetic shooter into a tabletop game. You can't fault Ubisoft: That certainly is more than a little different, and not at all what we were expecting from Far Cry.

Exactly how the gameplay and worlds of Far Cry will translate to a tabletop game remains to be seen. We know that Far Cry Beyond is launching in 2022, but beyond that and a fancy looking logo, no further information was offered. Watch this space.
