It turns out the average girl gamer is smarter than the lads, and those of you who play Rainbow Six Siege have the highest IQs on average. Results of a recent study from psychologists at Royal Panda has revealed and compared the IQs of gamers from a variety of titles, platforms and more, and come out with some interesting statistics.
These statistics come from measuring a group of over 1,000 gamers whose IQs were measured along with the sorts of games they played. The study then displayed the results of their findings. First up, the battle of the sexes: female games are smarter than theirmale counterparts with an average IQ of 108.4, compared to the male average of 102.3. For context, an IQ of 100 is considered the average in most tests.
Out of the games people played, it was discovered that the average highest IQ belonged to Rainbow Six Siege players with a massive 120.3 collective score. The second-highest average goes to indie game Among Us with 118.9 - and as it's about social deduction, we're not too surprised its players are smart. Third goes to Minecraft with an average of 116.3; fourth to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with 111.2; and in fifth are FIFA players with 106.6.
The study also tells us, albeit without any stats, that the lowest IQ players are those playing GTA: Online and the Assassin's Creed games. Ouch. I thought the animus was a pretty clever mechanic personally, but maybe that says something about me, huh.
According to Royal Panda, the platform that's home to the highest average IQ players is PC, with IQs of 112.3. Which... sort of makes sense? Building a PC is a little harder than loading up a game on a console. Next comes PlayStation with 110.7, then Xbox with 103.8. Switch players place fourth with 101.3 IQ, and at the bottom are mobile gamers with 99.4 IQs.
To have their IQs tested the participants went through four tests: verbal intelligence, mathematical ability, logical reasoning, and visual reasoning. It has to be noted though that these categories aren't really going to account for other intellectual aspects of people's lives, nor does it help that things like second languages, economic backgrounds, and more are not taken into consideration as far as we know. So, as with all judgements on IQ, take this study with a pinch of salt.
