A New York resident suffered a shocking loss this week when he discovered that his dear old mum had thrown out a huge chunk of his video collection - valued at roughly half a million dollars. I'm not sure how you'd bounce back from something like that, I'm really not.
An employee at J&L Game (a popular New York City-based video game store) was using his parents' house to store their impressive collection. It turns out this was a big mistake on his part, unfortunately, as mum appears to have made the decision to just... throw it out.
"People are gonna die" the employee joked on a now-deleted Twitter post. "I just found out my mom a few years ago there out ALL my PS1 games. 500+ games half still sealed. I am going to kill somebody."

It's not entirely clear why these tweets were taken down, but it could well be that Twitter perceived it as an actual threat - which it clearly wasn't. Still, if taken at face-value, it would make sense that Twitter would want to take down what it assumed was some kind of death threat. At least we have the memory of what he said, thanks to VG247.
According to the unfortunate soul, "well over $500k of games" had been binned since last they checked in on the collection." I left my old stuff in storage (my mom's home)," he said. "Today I found out she threw out my Ataris, Coleco, Intelli, Famicom, S Famicom, TGfx, PCE, NG AES, MegaDrive, Master System, basically every system and game I never took with me."
But it gets worse, as it seems mum's purge wasn't limited to video games. "She also threw out my two Marshall stacks, 14 pedals, Drum Kit, board, all my skateboards," the thread continued. A good amount of comic books were also thrown out.

It's not entirely clear why mum decided to chuck all of this stuff out. I'm assuming that son never actually told his parents how much all of this stuff was worth, so to them it was pretty much just tat that could easily be thrown out to make more space. If that's the case, it's definitely less on mum for throwing out and more on son for just assuming his junk/treasure would remain untouched in his parents' garage for the rest of time. Hopefully a valuable lesson was learned. it certainly cost him enough.
