Ghost Of Tsushima's massive online co-op update is being added to the game on October 16th, developer Sucker Punch has confirmed. The completely free update arrives via patch 1.1, and also adds a ton of other hotly requested features. Among them, you'll find the option to finally create your own custom loadouts, and a New Game+ mode for a whole new challenge.
Of course the multiplayer mode is the real meat of this update, and I can't wait to dive in. First announced back in August, Ghost Of Tsushima Legends offers a whole new way to play. Sucker Punch senior game designer Darren Bridges describes Legends as an "entirely new experience" that's separate from the main story. It follows four warriors who have been built up as legends in stories told by the people of Tsushima, and will be a "haunting and fantastical" experience inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology... with plenty of emphasis on cooperative combat and action.
If you missed it the first time round, take a look at the trailer below.
"We designed Legends to be an exclusively cooperative gameplay experience," Bridges explained. "You'll be able to partner up with friends or via online matchmaking and play Legends in groups of 2-4 players. Each player can choose from one of four different character classes: the Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin. Each class has unique advantages and abilities that we'll reveal in the future.
"With two players in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you'll be able to play a series of co-op Story missions that escalate in difficulty, building on the foundation of combat from the single-player campaign but with new magical twists that often require careful synchronization with your partner."
You can even assemble four players to take on a series of wave-based Survival missions, fighting groups of the "toughest enemies Tsushima has to offer". No matter how skilled you are at the single-player experience, you'll have to get used to powerful new enemies with entirely supernatural powers.
Legends also comes with its own trophies, cosmetics, and gear, all of which you'll be able to unlock through gameplay, and gameplay alone. Sucker Punch has promised there won't be any microtransactions, which is kind of incredible for such a massive free-to-play update.
