Games take money. Games take talent. And most importantly, games take time. After the announcement of God of War 2 that came in September of 2020, it was said that the sequel to the highly successful God of War (2018) would be coming out in 2021 as one of the first proper exclusives for the next-gen PlayStation. Now, an industry insider has hinted that this is no longer the case, and the game won't be released in 2021.

Jason Schreier, a reporter for Bloomberg, responded to Nibel, a video game Twitter news source, about the rumours that we'd be seeing God of War 2 this year - and the brief conversation suggests that we won't be meeting Kratos again this year at least.

Nibel posts about the fact that Horizon Zero Dawn sequel Horizon Forbidden West is still pegged to come out this year, after an interview with Jim Ryan mentions that the game will be a title for the second half of the year. Nibel also mentions that there wasn't a mention of God of War 2 a similarly anticipated game.

Jason Schreier then follows this up with "I've got a nice shiny bridge to sell anyone who thinks God of War is coming out this year". Ah. That doesn't sound good, does it? Absolutely sounds like Santa Monica Studio needs some more time cooking the game to make it as excellent as people expect it to be.

The original teaser, and the only trailer we have at the moment, just said 2021 as a release window. It sounds like, after this, Schreier knows that a delay is imminent. Perhaps, though, he's just being pessimistic, but it's likely he knows something the rest of us don't at the moment.

That's okay though. We want to see Ragnarok happening as much as the next gamer, but we're happy to wait for as long as we need to for the game to live up to everyone's lofty expectations. You do you, Santa Monica Studio, we'll still be hyped no matter how long it takes.
