It's not like it's going to be a surprise when I say that there is a graphics performance update between the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5. That's almost entirely the point in Sony creating a new console - that and the SSD, the new controller, and a few other bits and pieces. However, when Sony Santa Monica released the new update for the PS5's edition of hit game God of War, it's still surprising fans that the game could look any better.

The comparisons are pretty stunning actually - God of War on the PlayStation 4 already looked gorgeous, I don't even need to tell you that because you probably know it. The scenery, the rustling trees, the weapons on Kratos's back, it all looks so beautiful that many consider it the pinnacle of the PlayStation 4's library. And so for Sony Santa Monica to make it any better seems ridiculous, but the team has managed it and fans are going wild over just how nice the update looks.

One user has taken to Reddit just to gush about how amazing the update looks on their new TV. "I recently played God of War with the 4k 60 patch on PS5 and oh my, does it look and play stunning! I played the same game previously back in the day when it first launched but haven't managed to finish it... The level of detail is mesmerizing. I literally pause the game to take screenshots of many scenes from time to time."

Others have commented on how smooth it looks and feels and although it's not a remaster - it's a show of how the PlayStation 5 can be used as a great backwards compatibility platform despite that not being a main selling point of the console.

Santa Monica Studio is currently working on the next instalment of the series, God of War: Ragnarok which we have very few details for so far. We look forward to diving back into Kratos's world as soon as we can.
