GTA Fans Unite In Their Hatred Of Rockstar's New Subscription Service

"This is the kind of thing old Rockstar would’ve made fun of in-game"

Grand Theft Auto fans around the world have come together in their hatred of Rockstar Games' latest announcement: a subscription service for GTA Online.

For those who might have missed the news last week, Rockstar Games revealed GTA Plus to a disbelieving internet. For $5.99 a month (UK pricing yet to be confirmed), subscribers will get exclusive access to increased rewards on certain missions, the ability to upgrade items free of charge, and a recurring payment of GTA$500,000. Essentially, the subscription is a way to regularly rake in more online currency than those without a subscription.

Take a look at some of the very best GTA V wins and fails below!

This is not a service that GTA Online players have been asking for, and it's certainly not something that's needed. It's not surprising at all, then, that the GTA community has reacted to the news with the same level of disdain as if Rockstar had whipped off its pants and farted on an orphan's head. As far as I can see, there doesn't appear to be any goodwill for this announcement.

"How will the starving indie devs over at R* make it without this?" one user joked on the GTA Online subreddit.

"This is the kind of thing old Rockstar would've made fun of in-game," added another. "This honestly feels like an April fools joke."

GTA Plus will be rolled out from tomorrow (March 29). Given the immense backlash so far, it'll certainly be interesting to see how many people decide to subscribe regardless. If I had to guess, I'd say Rockstar is about to make a lot more money.
