Grand Theft Auto V is the game that keeps on giving. Yes, there's the fact that Rockstar has kept the game's online mode thriving for the last seven years (to the detriment of any single-player content). But there are also modders doing all kinds of weird and wonderful crap to Rockstar's open-world epic, and it doesn't look like they're going to run out of ideas any time soon.
It's because of these brilliant modders that we have what might just be the first great meme of 2021... or the last great meme of 2020, depending on how late you came to it.
As Polygon notes, it was in late December last year when footage of a mod that put Dragon Ball Z's Cell in GTA V that blew up on social media. Reskinned characters are impressive enough at the best of times, but the inclusion of unique voice lines and acting to make it so that Cell was actually talking about things from Dragon Ball Z - just with an NSFW GTA V twist - was the icing on the cake. Check it out below, or via this link.
Incredibly, Cell's savage takedown of Franklin was just the beginning. The internet was soon awash with videos using some of the best and weirdest GTA V mods out there, all dedicated to increasingly bizarre versions of the scene where Lamar roasts Franklin. Franklin was the one constant in all these scenes, while Lamar would typically be replaced by unexpected characters with some truly spicy dialogue.
In one fun twist, 37 Lamars showed up at once to roast Franklin:
Then there are some wild character swaps, including Kermit the Frog and Scarface. Who knew Muppets could be so cruel?
If you're after a more immersive experience, here's a first-person clip that allows Lamar to roast you, the viewer.
Things getting a little too mean up there? Join me for a quick break, as nobody roasts nobody. Alternarively, you can enjoy the secret good ending to the iconic scene.
And here we have Snow White... complimenting Franklin. Okay then. Probably a good place to end things, yeah?
Believe me when I say the videos in this article are just the tip of the iceberg. I expect that by the time I'm done writing this, there'll be dozens more to discover, proving once again that the internet is as terrifying as it is wondrous.
