With the news that Grand Theft Auto V is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it looks like we shouldn't expect Grand Theft Auto VI anytime soon. Still, that hasn't stopped fans from discussing what their dream sequel might look like when it finally releases at... some point in the future.

GTA V's Los Santos was an absolute beast, but how on Earth do you top a map like that? The answer, according to most fans, is to go bigger. Way bigger. One of the most frequent requests among fans is a map that connects the various cities and locations of previous GTA games into one epic open world.

Over on Reddit, it's common practice for fans to put together their own concept maps that combine the likes of Vice City, Los Santos, and Liberty City together. Some of them are genuinely interesting and ambitious... even though some users inevitably try to claim that these fan-made maps are leaked versions of the real thing. They aren't. I mean, look at the one below - it's a fantastic idea and ambitious concept, but we're not seeing this in GTA VI, are we?

Personally, I'm not entirely sure why we'd want to play a game with a map this big? Travelling across it would be an absolute pain, and if you were just going to fast travel between cities then... what's the point? Better to have something smaller, but packed with interesting things to do.

Of course, it's entirely unlikely that we'll see a map this substantial in the next GTA. We've already heard that the new game is in the early stages of development, and that Rockstar is considering releasing it as a "moderately sized" game that would be added to via updates over time.

This is according to a Kotaku report from several months ago, in which 15 members of staff who are either still with the developer or have left since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 claimed Rockstar is considering this change in strategy in an effort to reduce crunch.

It's unclear exactly what "moderately sized" would mean by Rockstar's standards, but I think we can all agree that it would mean the monster map that fans are dreaming of will not happen. At least not at launch. I guess the studio could slowly add cities to the map over time, but we'll have to wait and see.
