'GTA 6' Map Leak Sends Community Into Frenzy, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up

Take this with a pinch of salt.

It's been a big month for Grand Theft Auto VI leaks. Just a few days ago, noted industry insider Tom Henderson shared a ton of brand-new information on the in-development Rockstar Games title that was swiftly corroborated by a number of other reputable outlets.

Henderson, who accurately leaked pretty much everything to do with Battlefield 2042 ahead of its reveal, claimed that GTA VI is set in a modern-day Vice City. He also says the game will feature a female lead, a constantly-evolving open-world (think Fortnite) and that it's expected to release in 2025. Both VGC and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirm they've heard similar things from their own sources.

This influx of GTA 6 news has naturally sent the typically starved-for-knowledge GTA community into something of a frenzy, with fans frantically discussing and dissecting all the new information and its potential implications. Into this chaos, a brief video of what's being passed of as the GTA 6 map has surfaced online.

Originally posted over on GTA Forums before being deleted, the video has started doing the rounds over on the r/GTA6/, where it's being meticulously taken apart and analysed by the community. The map, which you can see below and shows off some of the activities and quest markers you'd expect to see in a GTA game.

The side bar shows off a number of activities, including bowling, basketball, strip clubs, street races, and golf courses. It also looks like there are barber shops, gyms, and plastic surgeons, suggesting a much greater level of character customisation than we've seen before in GTA.

While there are plenty of fans getting excited about this, most agree that this leaked video is almost certainly a fake. For one thing, we know that GTA 6 is still super early on in development, meaning it's highly unlikely to have a detailed map screen with markers and activities at this point. There's also the fact that the camera work on the original video is so shaky and so blurry that it's completely unbelievable. There seems to be this assumption that all leaks need to be low quality and look as if they've been filmed during an earthquake. We don't buy it.

Rockstar will no doubt have more to share on GTA 6 when it's good and ready. For now, regard this map with the high level of scepticism it deserves.
