'GTA Online' Is Giving Away $1 Million Free Cash To Players

There's no such thing as free money. Except in this instance.

The latest update for GTA Online has arrived, and includes free cash, a fix for the hoverbike, a few neat cosmetic rewards, and free cash. Notice I said 'free cash' twice, because I feel it's worth that extra emphasis. I mean, who cares about the other stuff when fat stacks are on the table, am I right?

Yes, my friends, Rockstar is giving away $1 million worth of cash, although this comes with two caveats. The first is that it's in-game cash, not real-life money. You'd think I wouldn't have to specify that, but you'd be amazed how stupid some people are. The second is that this freebie is only available for PlayStation 4 users with an active PlayStation Plus subscription. I'm not sure what you Xbox and PC players did to piss Rockstar off, but that's the way it is.

If you fit the criteria, all you need to do is log in to GTA Online at any point this month and you'll get $1 million deposited nice and snug into your in-game game account. I'd say this is Rockstar attempting to coax players back to the game, but given its massive, continued, and uninterrupted success over the years? Nobody needs coaxing anywhere.

Of course this could be a nice way for any lapsed players out there to get reacquainted with the game ahead of the upgraded PlayStation 5 port. Rockstar Games confirmed a few months back that the open world crime adventure will receive an "expanded and enhanced" version on next-gen consoles n the second half of 2021.

Rockstar also announced that it'll launch GTA Online as a standalone game in the second half of 2021. At present, the only way to play this online component is via a copy of GTA V. The developer added that for the first three months of its release it'll be available for free, exclusively on PlayStation 5.

We still don't really know exactly what the studio has planned for the port, but it did tease "a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the console's powerful new hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever". As long as the loading screens are a little quicker, I'm not really fussed what else Rockstar throws in. Anyway, stop reading this and go and grab your lovely free money, yeah? Yeah.
