'GTA: San Andreas' Remake Concept Trailer Is Everything Fans Have Dreamed Of

I want this now.

2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains one of the most popular video games of all time, and perhaps the game of the PlayStation 2 era. Rockstar's open-world sandbox was a stunning achievement at the time - one that invited millions of players to sink countless hours as they explored every nook and cranny of the cities, beaches, and forests of Los Santos and the surrounding areas.

While Grand Theft Auto V would go on to breathe new life into the same areas - while adding some entirely new locations - there are still fans out there who want to see the original San Andreas remade for next-gen consoles. Not just the world, but the characters and stories of the 2004 classic. Unfortunately, it's massively unlikely that Rockstar is in any kind of hurry to give us an official remake. Not when there's still plenty of money to be made from bringing Grand Theft Auto V to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X... and presumably every future console between now and the end of time.

Of course if Rockstar won't remake San Andreas, all most of us can do is dream. Some of us, however, can do a little more than that. Take YouTuber XXII, who has gotten so sick of waiting for the real thing that they've released their own fan trailer for a Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Definitive Edition concept. XXII makes it clear that this trailer is an entirely fan-made concept, and not indictive of any kind of full release... but it's still a pretty great-looking glimpse at what the future of the franchise might one day hold.

Take a look at it for yourself above, or via this handy little link right here.

XXII makes use of a number of visual mods for GTA V to create the effect of a San Andreas remaster. This, coupled with some excellent editing, creates a properly authentic feeling trailer that wouldn't look out of place during the next PlayStation State of Play presentation. Not that I'm telling you to MAKE THIS GAME or anything, Sony and Rockstar.

It should also be noted that XXII's has probably had to stress that this brilliant trailer is just a concept because Rockstar has pretty ruthlessly taken down more in-depth fan projects in the past. Just last year the studio pulled a truly stunning photorealistic remake - and that wasn't even fully playable. Hopefully Rockstar is a little kinder to XXII's effort and allows it to remain up for us to enjoy as we dream of the real thing.
