'GTA III, San Andreas & Vice City' Remaster Collection Rumoured To Be In Development

As I'm sure you've noticed over the years, Rockstar Games is not a studio that's particularly interested in revisiting its past. While gamers around the world have been crying out for remasters of classics Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for years, Rockstar has remained insistent that it doesn't do that kind of thing... multiple re-releases of Grand Theft Auto V aside, of course.

Now, however, there are rumblings that the studio is planning a remastered collection of games containing GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. I must stress that we're headed into wild rumour territory here, and I remain fairly sceptical that Rockstar would suddenly drop three remasters in one package after all these years. Even so, the multiple teases shared by various prominent members of the GTA Forums are too interesting to ignore.

As explained by GTABase, GTA Forums user and insider Mach1bud wrote "soon" in a seemingly innocent thread, completely out of the blue.

Not long after that, WildBrick142 hinted that Mach was leaking in the wrong thread, to which Mach responded that it was intentional. If he'd dropped the tease in the right thread, he said, it would have been too obvious. The thread was subsequently tagged with 'GTA III', "GTA VC' and 'GTA SA'. This is where I'd stroke my beard mysteriously, if I had one.

Things get a little bit strange and cryptic at this point, as Mach starts talking about how he'll be getting his "truck" in less than 90 days, that he'll be getting a trailer for it soon, and that it should have plenty of power with its new engine. Fans have surmised that the forum user was cheekily using jargon that could apply to vehicles and video games to make his point.

GTA Forums admin Uni also recently posted a photo of three custom-made GTA Online Shark Cards marked with the following dates: 2001/2002/2004. These are, of course, the years that GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas came out.

It's unclear if these are connected, or if it's even an intentional tease. As I said, you should take this with a hefty pinch of salt. This wouldn't be the first time that the GTA Forums got something wrong, and Rockstar has always been so against remasters. With that said... 2021 is the 20th anniversary of GTA III, the very first 3D GTA game. If ever there was going to be a remaster, it would be this year.
