You Can Finally Play As Godzilla In 'GTA 5' And Tear Up Los Santos

This incredible Grand Theft Auto V mod lets you rampage through the streets of Los Santos as the one and only Godzilla, and the sheer destruction is oh-so-satisfying.

Modder JulioNIB's Ultimate Godzilla Mod with Atomic Breath is available through their Patreon, and this video from TK Rebirth shows off the ginormous kaiju laying waste to Los Santos. It's oddly hypnotic, as the sun is setting on the iconic city, to see this monster charging across highways, kicking police cars like fallen leaves, and exploding helicopters in mid-air. The illusion is marred by Godzilla vaulting over trees and occasionally getting stuck on buildings. Hey, Instagram isn't real and nobody's perfect. The mod is ideal for those who are wanting to add a little spice to their next Grand Theft Auto V playthrough, though I'm not sure if the creature has the necessary opposable thumbs and light footfall for some of the more stealthy heists.

Mods, glorious mods. We're anxious to try them. Three downloads a day. Our favourite pastime. Eh, I tried. Check out Godzilla on a stroll in Los Santos below.

Last month, it was reported that Grand Theft Auto has sold over 345 million copies across the series and over the last twenty years. Thanks to this stellar shift, it generated approximately $9 billion in gross revenue and earning it a spot as the fifth-highest selling game franchise in history. Ahead of it is Pokémon, Call Of Duty, Tetris and Mario, so it's got some serious competition if it wants the throne.

What's next for Grand Theft Auto? Well, no one's overly sure. The most popular theory is that Rockstar Games is intending to return to Vice City in the newest entry in the series. It's tough to ignore the significance of Take-Two Interactive's choice to refresh the domains for "gtavicecityonline' and 'gtavi.com', which is what led to lots of fans rolling down this rabbit hole. Intriguingly, it may involve a female playable protagonist - which would be a monumental first for the series - and might see the characters jet off to South America at one point. The only thing we know for definite is that the new game is "moderately sized" with room to expand on the original game with continual updates.
