'GTA V' Gets Massive Chicago Map Expansion In Impressive New Mod

'GTA V' Gets Massive Chicago Map Expansion In Impressive New Mod

GTA's anatomy.

Is it fair to say that GTA V's Los Santos is one of the most ambitious video game open worlds of all time? I think it is. I mean, it just feels alive, doesn't it? From the sun-dappled piers to the lush greenery of the mountains and forests, with a vast expanse of concrete jungle stretching between the two - it's a world I'll always return to because it feels like there's always something new to see.

Then again, maybe you're not like me. Maybe you've explored every inch of Los Santos several times over and are pretty much ready for something new. With absolutely no sign of GTA VI on the horizon, those of you looking for a fresh GTA adventure are better off turning to each other for your fix. After all, passionate fans will so often knock it out of the park in ways you'd never expected.

Take modders FV Design and Lozano. These guys aren't just looking to make a few small pieces of new content for GTA V here and there - although that's always plenty of fun in its own right. No, these two have much grander ambitions: they're currently working on bringing the entirety of Chicago to the critically-acclaimed crime game.

That's right, the Windy City and home of my wife's favourite medical drama will soon be immortalised in GTA V if FV Design and Lozano have anything to say about it. As you can see from the 40-minute gameplay demo below (or via this link), the project is coming along beautifully. It's clearly not finished yet, but the attention to deal is absolutely breathtaking - especially when you remember this is the work of two people.

There's no official word yet on when exactly this massive mod will be available to us, but FV Design is providing fairly regular development updates over on their channel. You can also support FV Design over on Patreon to get early access to map builds, which definitely sounds like a fun thing to do.

For now, I wish FV Design and Lozano the best of luck with this project, and can't wait to see how much better the final product looks. Lord knows Watch Dogs did nothing to satisfy the urge I had to explore an open-world Chicago, so here's hoping this GTA V mod scratches the itch.
