Harry Potter Open World RPG 'Hogwarts Legacy' Announced

It looks like the rumours were true, an open world RPG based on the hugely popular Harry Potter series is coming to current and next-gen consoles in 2021, and it looks pretty dang awesome. Hogwarts Legacy puts players in the shoes of a custom witch or wizard as they attend Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learn spells, and make choices that can affect the world around them. I'm into it.

"Experience a new story set at Hogwarts in the 1800s," reads the official description."Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Make allies, battle Dark wizards, and decide the fate of the wizarding world."

Take a look at the debut trailer below. Did I mention how excited I am by this one? No? I'm excited.

Details on Hogwarts Legacy are still relatively thin on the ground right now, but it certainly looks like the in-depth RPG we've been hearing about for around a year now.

Previous rumours suggested that the RPG will support a basic character customisation system, and the ability to choose between pureblood, half-blood, or muggle-born. This, apparently, will have certain gameplay ramifications... but these are just rumours at this point. What we do know is that the Harry Potter RPG is real, and it looks fantastic. That's enough for me right now.

It's not entirely clear when Hogwarts Legacy will drop beyond a vague 2021 release window, but it looks like this'll be hitting PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles. Expect more details soon. For now lets just stick this trailer on repeat and start packing for Hogwarts, baby.
