Harry Potter RPG 'Hogwarts Legacy' First-Look Gameplay Reportedly Teased

I'm sure you guys probably remember that a few months back, Warner Bros. and Portkey Games announced Hogwarts Legacy: the long-rumoured Harry Potter RPG that we've all been waiting for.

We were treated to a gorgeous trailer during a PlayStation 5 event packed with announcements in which Hogwarts Legacy left as the star of the show in the eyes of many. The open-world RPG looks the business, offering a vast open world that includes Hogwarts and many of the iconic surrounding areas. If, like me, you grew up waiting for your very own Hogwarts acceptance letter, you were probably pretty thrilled by the reveal.

"The game, which invites you to 'Live the Unwritten', is set in the 1800s, where players will live the life of a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," reads a post on the official Wizarding World website. "Expect Hogwarts Legacy to be filled with all kinds of immersive magic, while your student-character will learn spells, brew potions, tame fantastic beasts, select companions to help them fight off deadly enemies."

Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to arrive in 2021 for current and next-gen consoles, so we're in for a little bit of a wait. The good news, however, is that it looks like we can expect another look at the game in December - and this time it'll apparently show off a lot more gameplay than we saw the first time. To be fair, that won't be hard given that the debut trailer didn't seem to show any gameplay at all, really.

Take this with a hefty pinch of salt for now, but Reddit user Rodribu95 shared a screenshot of a Discord exchange. In it, a user claiming to be close to development on Hogwarts Legacy alleged that our next look at the RPG will drop in December - they seemed very confident about that. With The Game Awards scheduled for December 10th and teasing its own raft of major announcements and trailers, it seems a fairly safe bet that we'd be seeing Hogwarts Legacy at the show.

While this is obviously an intriguing tease, don't get too excited yet. The Discord user who made the claim doesn't exactly have a track record, and they also implied that Bloomberg reporter and industry insider Jason Schreier has corroborated the December gameplay reveal - which he really hasn't.

To sum up, a December reveal is likely but by no means guaranteed.
