Hayley Atwell, who you may well know as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been revealed as the voice of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider Netflix series. The actress will be starring as the one and only Lara in the series that was first announced in January of 2021.
Deadline reports that Hayley Atwell is confirmed for series that will continue on from the rebooted series by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal. We're not 100% yet sure of the title (though Deadline does call it Tomb Raider) or of the contents of the series but it's part of the Netflix push to capture the hearts of gamers in new adaptations.
The most recent Lara Croft game was Shadow of the Tomb Raider...
We've had The Witcher live-action series, the associated anime, the Castlevania anime and we've even got new series based on Assassin's Creed and Metal Gear in production. The Tomb Raider anime will just be another feather in the entertainment company's hat but Netflix is taking the production seriously as Atwell isn't the only big name to be involved in the project.
The original report notes that the series will be written by Tasha Huo (upcoming live-series prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin), and they will be executive producing alongside dj2 Entertainment founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog).
Haley Atwell has previously said that she wants to "debunked female stereotypes" like in this Evening Standard interview. She says: "There is just more room for representation of women who are not just the wife and mother, the sexpot, the ingenue, that are not hysterical or just the leading parts that involve some kind of mental breakdown or suicide attempt."
We can't wait to see how she does as Lara Croft in the series, hopefully, she'll bring even more life to the adventurer that will fuel game adaptations in years to come.
